College Students deliberated on Child Rights, Girls Safety

Jammu, August 27: Students of Govt. PG College of Women, Gandhi Nagar participated in a symposium on Child Rights & Child Protection and deliberated on Child Rights and Girls Safety. The Symposium on Child Rights and Child Protection was organized by National Development Foundation, in collaboration with, Govt. PG College for Women, Gandhinagar Jammu and UNICEF India. It aimed at raising awareness among students and teachers about child rights and protection. The symposium saw enthusiastic participation from students, delivering compelling speeches on child rights and protection. Ms. Manvi, Ms. Shivya & Ms. Kashish, stood Ist ,2nd and 3rd respectively, while the consolation prizes, were bagged by Ms. Akriti and Ms. Tanya. All the participants were given certificates. The principal of the College, Sh. S.P Saraswat was the chief guest on the occasion. He actively promoted awareness, advocate for policy changes, and support initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of children and girls in our communities.

Ms. Sunita Bhagat – Asst. Professor Dept. of Social Work also sensitised the Children on child rights, safety measures for girls, and the importance of awareness regarding available helplines and support systems. Ms. Ayeesha Kour acted as stage secretary while, Ms. Vinay Lata – Asst. Professor Psychology, Dr. Nazi – Asst. Professor Environmental Science & Ms. Suraj Mohini Jamwal – Asst. Professor Sociology judged the participants.

In addition, Ms. Nisha Pandita, Addl. Programme Officer, NDF conducted a highly informative sensitization session for both students and teachers, valuable insights on legal frameworks, community initiatives, and the role of education in safeguarding children's rights. She focused on research findings, personal perspectives, and recommendations for fostering a culture of respect and protection.

The symposium concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the National Development Foundation, expressed gratitude to all participants, judges, and the school teachers for their support in making the event a success. This symposium marks a significant step towards fostering a culture of respect for child rights and empowering the next generation to be aware and proactive in protecting these rights.
