NDF holds Symposium on Child Rights at Dewan Badri Nath Vidya Mandir, Mubarak Mandi, Jammu

JAMMU, Nov 14th: The National Development Foundation, NDF J&K Jammu, in collaboration with Dewan Badrinath Vidya Mandir and UNICEF India, organised Symposium on Child Rights and Child Protection at Dewan Badrinath Vidya Mandir, Mubarak Mandi, Jammu. The symposium a marking Children's Day aimed to enhance awareness among students and teachers of children's rights, promote child protection mechanisms, and strengthen understanding of safe, inclusive, and child-friendly environments in schools.

Six schools participated in the event, including DBN Vidya Mandir, KB Public School, JK Public School, Oriental Academy, Lawrence Public School, and Light House Public School around 43 students from six schools participated, and approximately 200 children, teachers, and dignitaries witnessed the symposium.

Participating students delivered well-articulated speeches on topics related to child rights, child safety, mental well-being, gender sensitivity, and the role of schools and communities in ensuring a safe upbringing for children. Vrinda Singh, Mariam Salaria, and Arieb secured the first, second, and third positions, respectively, while Saumya Jain and Mariam bagged the consolation prizes. All student participants received certificates in recognition of their commendable efforts and active participation.

Rajiv Kumar Khajuria, a noted civil society leader, child rights strategist, and honorary patron of NDF, was the chief guest, while Inspector Shakti Sharma, SHO of the police station City, Prof. Rita Jamwal, and the principal of the school, Priya Singh, were guests of honour. Vaishali conducted the stage, and Arushi Jamwal, Kamini Nanda, Neelam Gupta, Anandita Thakur, and Ranjan Sharma acted as judges. The NDF Team, led by Nisha Pandita and comprising Rohit Singh, Arundeep Singh, Rajat Sharma, and Sahil Singh, facilitated the smooth conduct of the symposium.

Sub Inspector Shakti Sharma, SHO City Police, highlighted the critical importance of protecting children from all forms of violence, abuse, and exploitation. emphasised the roles of par-ents, teachers, and communities in creating safe conditions for children and stressed the need to report concerns promptly. Rajiv Kumar Khajuria sensitised participants on child protection mechanisms at both institutional and community levels.
